Better health comes one step at a time.
Usually, the first step isn’t physical, but mental — recognizing the challenges ahead and building the resolve to tackle them.
That’s true for anyone working to improve their personal well-being. It’s just as true in the life and health of a state.
We introduced Better Tennessee knowing our shared home faces many health challenges, and because there are people and organizations committed to overcoming each one of them.
Every day, I’m proud to see that commitment in our people at BlueCross and our collaborative partners across the state.
But in business — and giving back — making an impact requires more than just commitment. It takes insightful strategy and disciplined execution.
And so we are focusing our charitable investments, corporately and through our Health Foundation and Community Trust.
Our three focus areas are:
- Activity, to promote and expand physical activity across the state
- Access, to expand affordable, quality healthcare options in Tennessee
- Addiction, to mitigate the damaging effects of prescription drug abuse
By refining our scope, we truly believe our work will help create a healthier state. Together with our partners, we’re building momentum and seeing aspirations become reality.
That’s why we’re proud to continue publishing stories of progress in Better Tennessee.
Your feedback on our first issue was tremendously encouraging. We heard from customers, business partners and civic leaders alike, who all share our commitment to positive change and are pleased to know about the good things happening in our communities.
In this issue, we’ve selected activity as the theme of our cover story.
We invest in the work of these organizations, and others you’ll read about here, because BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is for Tennessee.
